The Pontifical Catholic Institute of Florida, presented in short form as the Catholic Institute, is an independent institute of study in Catholic theology, philosophy and related religious disciplines. It is organised to serve students who seek a rigorous, source-based formation in the Catholic intellectual tradition.
To advance disciplined study of Catholic theology and philosophy, to form students in careful reading and honest reasoning, and to make the intellectual patrimony of the Church accessible to those who wish to study it seriously.
An institute whose scholarship is dependable, whose records are transparent, and whose graduates are recognised for the quality of their reading, writing and judgement rather than for the titles they hold.
Intellectual honesty. Fidelity to primary sources. Respect for the person. Institutional transparency. Moderation in claims and clarity in language.
The Institute studies and teaches within the Catholic intellectual tradition, drawing on Scripture, the Fathers, the scholastic and modern theological schools, and the magisterial documents of the Church. It is an independent institution and does not act on behalf of any diocese, religious order or ecclesiastical authority.
Study proceeds through primary texts, sustained writing and direct engagement with faculty. Assessment measures comprehension and argument rather than the accumulation of credit hours alone.
The Institute is in its foundational period. Its history will be recorded here as events occur and are formally documented; no earlier history is claimed.
